Project Description
Cluster Detached House off Mountbatten Road5 years prior to approaching us for a revamp, the owner of this cluster detached house had hastily carried out a major interior renovation which unfortunately suffered from a number of less-than-ideal decisions made at that time – several bay windows in the side walls of the master and attic bedrooms were concealed behind wardrobes, and the skylights of the latter were also sealed up with false ceiling. These 2 key bedrooms as a result could only be naturally ventilated by opening their front facade sliding glass doors which served also as the only source of view out and natural light, but had to be shielded with curtains due to over-looking issues within the compact cluster housing development. The basement bedroom and family area were also functionally not well-defined through a lack of planning and design, and suffered from poor natural lighting with absolutely no view out, becoming uninspiring, unloved spaces not pleasant to spend time in. Such planning deficiencies and design inadequacies throughout various parts of the dwelling compromised the quality of the spaces and caused the house to perform and function well below what the spaces could otherwise have offered the occupants.
Our design proposal set out to `reclaim’ all the natural lighting that had been lost during its last renovations, sensitively re-lay out and re-fit out the various spaces and rooms to optimise and realise the potential of the house, and to create delightful spaces and moments throughout the dwelling. Disadvantageously positioned built-in features that inconvenienced or actually negatively affected the lifestyle of its occupants were addressed, and personalised, bespoke amenities or features then thoughtfully and tastefully introduced to meet the specific needs of the respective individuals.
