Project Description

Plantation House at Alibaug, India

Set amidst coconut and betel nut palms, the architecture of the plantation house near the beach is highly modern. We designed the hardscape forms and elements so that they complement the architectural themes that had been formulated, and set the stage for a wonderful outdoor experience which this holiday house was envisioned to create.

Swaying eucalyptus trees flank the main gate, beyond which a path of randomly arranged pavers leads one through the front gardens and into the house. Linear water features and planters echo the streamlined form of the architecture, and together with scented flowering plants, bring a sense of anticipation to the layered entry experience. Beyond the house, a huge 2-way infinity-edged pool in the central garden reflects the sky and the hundreds of trees around like a breath-taking slab of precious stone. Seemingly sliding hardscape forms composed of planters, pavers and landscaped terraces continue to lead one’s experience through the immense garden with ease and delight. Entertainment by the pool is highly celebrated with a huge landscaped timber deck and an expanse of wet terrace of 2-inch deep water.
